Excerpts from Wikipedia article Christland

Christland is a planet founded in the early days of the UPMW, settled by a contingent of Christian fundamentalists. The founders believed modern technology to be bringing the population away from Christ, calling their sect the Neo-Amish. Despite some resistance from the UPMW government, they managed to separate themselves and create their own government.
Their society is based around not progressing technology past the level present in the early 21st century. This means travel is primarily through either combustion engine land vehicles or grounded, railed trains. Robotics are primitive, and a large amount of menial labor is still done by hand, which they believe brings them closer to God. Phones, computers, and power grids are similarly archaic.
The founders, finding the planet to be resource-rich, built up a large amount of capital. This amount was used to set up the transportation hub on the moon and to purchase large amounts of live cows, chickens, goats, sheep, etc. that they could breed in order to begin a livestock industry, as lab-grown meat is not allowed.
The transportation hub, present on the moon of Grace, allows visitors to land in modern ships and transfer to a primitive moon-base. Here, all modern technology is confiscated and stored in lockers until the visitor leaves. From here, an archaic shuttle with no warp technology transports visitors to and from the planet. Originally, one of the founders didn’t even want a reusable shuttle, as rockets during their targeted time period were one time use only, with re-entry being basically a controlled crash landing.
Of course, the Neo-Amish have not resisted all forms of contemporary technology. To prevent another ecological collapse, like the one experienced on Earth during the 21st century, modern carbon recapture technology is utilized to keep balance with the large amount of Carbon Dioxide expelled from their engines and methane from their copious livestock.
Christland maintains a 97% religious population (as opposed to the UPMW’s 15%). Tradition dictates that when a Neo-Amish adolescent turns 18, they are allowed to go on a rumspringa, or a year long trip around the galaxy to experience other technologies, peoples, and cultures. Some even attend a year of college outside Christland during this time. At the end of the year, they can choose to remain within the Neo-Amish church, or remain outside of Christland. Retention rate varies by the part of the planet, but overall hovers around 82%.
